Traditional public participation methods, such as paper surveys, limited-attendance meetings, and in-person workshops, systematically exclude large segments of the population, are resource-intensive, and yield data that is difficult to analyze at scale. Urban planners therefore operate with incomplete pictures of community needs and preferences.
Maptionnaire by Mapita is a GIS-backed community engagement platform that replaces paper-based consultation with interactive digital maps and questionnaires. The tool enables planners to reach broader and more diverse audiences cost-effectively, collecting spatially rich feedback that can be analyzed and visualized directly within a GIS environment.
Deployed globally in over 50 countries, including UN-Habitat projects in Jordan and Afghanistan. The platform has supported hundreds of urban planning processes, materially increasing participation rates and the demographic diversity of respondents compared to conventional methods.
