Stage:
Scale-up & growth
Moldovan households face high heating costs, strong dependence on imported natural gas, and inefficient heating systems, particularly in rural and peri-urban areas. This creates energy poverty, vulnerability to price shocks, and higher carbon emissions, while affordable and scalable clean-heating solutions remain limited.
Solarway is implementing the Moldovan Household Sustainable Development (MHSD) project to provide tiered, climate-resilient solutions. It delivers modular, flat-plate solar air heaters and decentralized clean-energy systems for households and small farms. Each 2m² unit generates approximately 2MWh of clean thermal energy per year, can be self-installed to reduce costs, and is expandable through modular design. The solution is being enhanced with IoT sensors, AI-driven monitoring, and pay-as-you-save financing, enabling affordable adoption and long-term scalability.
Each installed unit avoids approximately 0.4 tons of CO2 per year, reduces reliance on imported gas, and can cut household heating bills by up to 70%. The MHSD project aims to pilot 150 households and scale to 100,000+ homes, strengthening rural energy resilience, creating local jobs through assembly and training, and improving thermal comfort and food-drying capacity.
