The problem

Technology drives the world, and we need more women there. Despite the growing number of initiatives teaching women how to code, they haven’t made the difference we need to see. Women want to work in tech, but they often don’t know their options. In their 30s, they don’t want to start a career in tech from scratch. Or sometimes they’ve even attended a tech course but still can’t find a tech job.

There are three hundred thousand educated women in Slovakia, between the age of 22 to 45, who have the potential to make a career change to tech.

The solution

Female Algorithm’s edtech model consists of four learning and coaching steps that help women to decide their desired career direction in the field of tech, specializing, applying their knowledge to our development projects, and starting their first tech job.

The entire process takes from six to ten months and is totally remote – using a single digital platform.

Impact

The journey started with a book, Female algorithm, written by the organization’s founder, and published in 2018, which was followed by volunteering – all with the same goal, to motivate more women and girls to join the world of tech. By 2022, the team has grown to 25 members and delivered dozens of training sessions, attended by more than 6 000 women.

Besides teaching women technical skills, Female algorithm educates future female managers, helps women get back to work after maternity leave, raises awareness about diversity and inclusion in the workplace and every summer organizes a coding camp for girls.

What they're saying about BOOST

“The programme was attended by three members of our executive team, and our marketing manager, specifically for the crowdfunding module. The collaboration on strategic tasks helped me to visualize our vision better within the team.

Thanks to BOOST, we are transforming from a grants-only dependent nonprofit to a self-sufficient social edtech startup, with the potential to split activities between the nonprofit and company in the future.

We gained a lot of confidence and benefited a lot from constructive feedback on assignments and our pitch from mentors. We found potential project partners among participants as well.”
